Pc upgrade - W. Wallis - 09-06-2017
Got about £200 atm to spend on an upgrade to my PC. Current specs are:
Intel i5 quad core
AMD R9 280x
8GB DDR3 (I think, will have to check) RAM
2x 1tb HDD
550 watt PSU
Fairly standard ASUS Motherboard
I'm considering an SSD to help with load times in arma etc. But anyone got any other ideas on upgrades? I mainly play arma, so that's what I want it, although I do play warthunder and wargaming titles as well (a potato can run those so they won't matter).
I read upgrading the CPU won't do much, and same for the GPU, so haven't put much thought into those. Any ideas are welcome.

New MB but need to concider RAM now being DDR 4 for most upto date MB's

You haven't really stated anything wrong with your current PC. That being said, Arma optimization is a gamble and a half.
Your best bet is to look into SSD route as you can always take that part with you onto your next build. I will talk to you on TS.

SSD and CPU for arma, although for £200 I not sure you would get much in terms of CPU increase.

Listen here cunt. Your graphics card is fine for Arma. You haven't specified what i5 you have. There's a big difference between an i5 660 and an i5 6600k. Arma is a processor heavy game. I upgraded mine last week to an i7 6600k 4.6GHz and it's had more of an impact than any of my videocards. If you're upgrading your processor then it's often good to upgrade your motherboard at the same time due to the difference between an 1150 and an 1151 socket.
If you can get a decent SSD and ONLY install Arma on it, then that'll be a big difference.

If you don't have an ssd, get one. You won't regret it.
Arma aside, it will make your Pc experience in general far better.

I'd avoid an SSD. For the money you've got, your better off getting an SSHD, with storage twice of that you'd get for an HDD and near enough the same speed as an SSD, if not faster (unlikely). I myself have 2x 2TB Firecuda SSHD's and an additional 4TB Barracuda HDD. You may want to focus more on your RAM. Theres nothing wrong with 8 but 16 is getting to a point where it is nearly mandatory. I would suggest DDR4 purely as it requires less power (voltage), has higher I/O. It may well even be worth saving a tad more, depending on sales and whatnot for a better Graphics card. The 970's and 1060's are rather cheap and are considerably better than the card you have at the moment, even though thats not a pressing matter.

yeah, i bought the whole motherboard CPU package together, and didn't bother with a new cooler, may have to look at a better one, because then I can overclock my CPU.

You can have a good cooler for 50 euro's, so like 60 pounds I did say.
